Festival Objectives:

  • Connect the writer with groups, organizations and resources for writers in the Waterloo Region.
  • Connect the writer with other writers.
  • To give writers the opportunity to further their work and their own knowledge by staging their work.


ACTone

Rules and Regulations:
  1. Due to the nature of the festival, not every submission will be given a reading.
  2. The organizers of the festival and JM Drama will select which submissions are given readings and which writers will produce their work in the ACTOne Showcase in the fall of 2002.
  3. The fee to submit is $10 (CDN) per work.
    • This entitles you to a free pass of the ACTOne festival and one free ticket to the Showcase in the fall of 2002.
    • Cheques are to be made payable to J.M. Drama Alumni.
    • Write: "ACTOne" in the memo section of the Cheque.
    • Cheques must be dated for the deadline date.
  4. A writer may only enter one submission
  5. You must be a resident of Waterloo region.
  6. Plays of any length may be submitted.
  7. Musicals are not eligible for the ACTOne festival.
  8. Do NOT submit your original copy. Send reproductions only.
  9. Entered works must be original and unproduced by the time of the ACTOne festival.
  10. Plays must be submitted in English. Plays originally written in a language other than English may be submitted but must be submitted in English as no provision can be made for submissions written in any other language.
  11. Scripts must be type written and bound (no paperclips). Written on one side of 8.5 x 11 inch paper, one inch borders. Twelve pt font.
  12. By entering a work in the ACTOne festival, playwrights are thereby declaring themselves available to participate in the ACTOne Showcase in the fall of 2002. The playwright must be present during the production process for the ACTOne Showcase in the fall of 2002. They may act as Director or Producer if they wish.
  13. For the purposes of evaluation, all entries must be entered under a pen-name or pseudonym. See 'How to Enter'
  14. If you want your script returned following the ACTOne Festival, please include a self addressed stamped envelope WITH sufficient postage. Unselected works for the festival that do not come with a SASE will be shredded and recycled. Any SASE that has insufficient postage will be disposed in the same manner.
  15. If your work is selected to be produced in the ACTOne Showcase, it is understood that you must purchase a Student, Production or Full Membership in JM Drama.
  16. The author agrees, by submitting a play, to the public presentation and public performance of the play as part of the ACTOne program by J.M. Drama and waives any rights to payment of royalty or other fees for such presentation and performance.
  17. Personal information is collected for purposes of the ACTOne program, for inclusion on our mailing lists and for related purposes. J.M. Drama does not sell, rent or loan its mailing or membership lists. If you have any questions, please call the President at 519 575-5782.

How to enter:
  1. Fill in entry form completely

  2. On the cover page of the submitted work, please contain the following information in the following order:
    1. Title
    2. Genre
    3. Pseudonym; DO NOT put your real name on the cover page of your script.
    4. Length of play in page numbers
